Social Worker VJO Coordinator

The Veteran Justice Outreach Coordinator is an integral member of the Homeless Program and works in conjunction with the Homeless Program and Social Work Service. The Social Worker in this position requires knowledge and understanding of the services and benefits available from community, State and Federal agencies. This position also requires a general knowledge of jail culture, its impact upon veterans, institutional and community perceptions and behavior. The Coordinator will also be skillful in assisting the veteran and those who work with him or her in adopting behaviors adaptive to community living. The Veteran Justice Outreach Coordinator has specialized knowledge of practice related to the treatment of chronically mentally ill population, those with substance abuse disorders and those who have history of complex legal difficulties. The Veteran Justice Outreach Coordinator is licensed in a state at the independent practice level. Duties include but are not limited to:
Completes thorough psychosocial assessments to include substance abuse, psychiatric illness and psychosocial problems Participates in development of a treatment plan for each veteran contacted through outreach Responsible for the assessment identification, facilitation and referral to appropriate medical and psychiatric services for veterans identified as eligible for services. Assists incarcerated veterans in the preparation of materials needed for applications to various agencies for entitlements, then, follows the process of the application until a determination has been made. Serves as the major consultant for information on negotiating the complex processes veterans encounter when interacting with government and community agencies. Provides referral to VA medical and mental health treatment and to other VA services including VA benefits, as well as community-based social services and other non-VA entitlement programs if appropriate. Documents the veterans progress in progress notes Stays abreast of current theory and treatment modalities by reading professional journals, attending conferences, clinical seminars and teleconferences Represents the VA at community meetings, having membership on boards, councils and task forces Educates VA staff and communicates with Medical Center and VISN leadership regarding justice involved Veteran issues and activities Responsible to the Homeless Program Coordinator, but practices independently, exercising initiative and independent judgment in day to day activities. Successful completion of master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. (Transcripts must be provided). Licensure:
Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. English Language Proficiency:
Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j, May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). GS-12 Social Work Coordinator - Experience/Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification- Individuals assigned as Social Worker Program Coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
