The Veteran Justice Outreach Coordinator is a Senior Social Worker position that requires an advanced level of knowledge and understanding of the services and benefits available from a community, State and Federal agencies. The incumbent must have skill in diplomacy, advocacy, and negotiation in spanning boundaries of at least two large institutions, VA and corrections. Knowledge of jail culture, its impact upon veteran institutional and community perceptions and behavior, and skill in assisting the veteran and those who work with him or her in adopting behaviors adaptive to community living. The incumbent should have Specialized knowledge of practice related to the treatment of chronically mentally ill population, those with substance abuse disorders and those who have history of complex legal difficulties. Duties include but are not limited to:
Supports existing Veterans Courts and take initiative in the development of new Veterans Courts Build new relationships and expand existing relationships with VA Police Forces serving the affiliated healthcare system and the catchment area for the affiliated healthcare system Conduct regular, ongoing outreach to selected jail facilities serving the catchment area of the affiliated healthcare system Respond to as needed to requests of jail and other justice system personnel to requests for outreach and re-entry services to Veterans incarcerated in other jail facilities in the catchment area of the affiliated healthcare system Develops and implements information systems to track services including visits, referrals, patient demographics and patient satisfaction Provides referral to VA medical and mental health treatment and to other VA services including VA benefits, as well as community-based social services and other non-VA entitlement programs if appropriate. Documents the veterans progress in progress notes Stays abreast of current theory and treatment modalities by reading professional journals, attending conferences, clinical seminars and teleconferences Represents the VA at community meetings, having membership on boards, councils and task forces Conducts staff development programs for mental health service and takes responsibility for providing opportunities to help staff update their mental health professional knowledge and practice skills Oversee and insure that needed Release of Information forms are completed and that agreed upon letters and other documentation to be provided to the court system and Veterans/attorneys are completed Participates in and local responsibility for program monitoring and evaluation conducted by NEPEC Participate in an and all related Veteran Justice Outreach Conference calls as needed Work Schedule:

Successful completion of master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. (Transcripts must be provided). Licensure:
Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. English Language Proficiency:
Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j, May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). GS-12 Senior Social Worker Experience/Education. The candidate must have at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Senior social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. Licensure/Certification. Senior social workers must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
Skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management. Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes. Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area, as well as role modeling effective social work practice skills. Ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession, and to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to the service delivery area. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
